Only 4 B-1A was built as prototypes (1977-81), and it was succeeded in 1984 of the B-1B an improved model that looked nearly all the same, but was very different in capability. Designed for low-level attack, with increased internaly fuel capacity and better stealth quality. The B-1B went into service in 1986.
In the film the Lancer launches the 2 cruiser missiles armed with nuclear warheads instead of exercisedummys. SPECTRE takes control over the missiles and captures the warheads.
